From Chancery Lane, the route makes its way past Gray’s Inn and through Clerkenwell to Angel, follows the New River and then the railbed of the former line between Finsbury Park and Highgate (diverting via the Archway bridge), rounds Hampstead Heath, then descends from the edge of Hampstead village to Swiss Cottage. It then moves west to Wormwood Scrubs, and south to cross the river to Putney Heath. Finally, it sweeps west via Crystal Palace to Sidcup.
