London Summits Walk: Stanmore to Chancery Lane via Havering-atte-Bower

Hainault Forest

North and north-east

Streets and parkland alternate as far as the A1, then the route is almost entirely green across London’s northern fringe to a new forest of saplings at Enfield Chase. The Turkey Brook is followed through parts of Enfield to the River Lea, after which rural paths persist beyond Chingford. Streets and green spaces alternate to Chigwell Row (with a short stretch of footway-deprived road in Chigwell). A first-rate traverse of Hainault Forest to Havering-atte-Bower (with its stocks on the green), then more woodland to Havering Park. The rest of this section is on streets (apart from a section along the River Rom).
