Submit a Green Walk

We would like to know about Green Walks out there, but which we have not yet incorporated into the site. It is advisable before submission that you remind yourself of the Green Walk principles. For each walk, we need

• The official name of the route
  This should be supplied in English, Welsh, Scots Gaelic and Irish as relevant to the location of any part of the route.
• a GPX file for the route
  Named waypoints are extremely helpful, preferably less than 2km apart.
• the URL for the authoritative source of information about the walk
  At the very least, the walk author’s website PDF file may suffice, but information on the websites of councils and similar bodies are preferred where they exist. An entry in a collection of walk references is insufficient if it’s just another link in a chain which could break.

Other information will be very helpful, and will help speed the work of the volunteers who maintain the site: this includes

• a comprehensive set of public transport connections
  These should be provided with the distance in metres (measured, not guessed, to the nearest 10m) from the most accessible point on the route. This list will only be of help if it is exhaustive — a list of bus stations in main towns is insufficient, since it does not cater for all walkers’ conditions and abilities.
• a short tag paragraph
  This should give the distance in kilometres (derived from the GPX data, not from an approximate conversion estimate from other measurements), the endpoints (or a brief description of a multi-day circuit with a conventional start/finish point), and the level of public transport connectivity, noting gaps of more than 20km.
• a photograph of a typical location on the route
  This is more powerful if it is not a hackneyed location — everyone knows what the Shard and Edinburgh Castle look like already. You must confirm that you own the copyright of the photograph (no lifting it from someone else’s site) and that you give the Green Walks UK team a free and non-exclusive licence to use the photograph on this site.

Note that the Green Walks UK site does not host detailed walk descriptions — these remain on an author’s website, or as a reference to a publication. In this way, we do not risk holding outdated route descriptions, and the author’s intellectual property is not diminished.
