The backbone of Northern Ireland’s walking network is the Ulster Way, which encircles the six counties. The route, popularised during the 1980s, has been overhauled and modified. It promises a 1000km circuit, but a third of that is on “link sections” of roadway, where even Outdoor Recreation NI advise walkers to take a bus.
Of course, there are many local walks, from 50km down to a short stroll.
