There are boundary walks which “beat the bounds” of a city or district. There are others which take up the theme of a boundary between regions.

Circular routes

  • Arran Coastal Way
    A circuit of 61km around the island of Arran.
  • Barnsley Boundary Walk
    A walk of 108km which encircles Barnsley.
  • Bolton Rotary Way
    A walk of 82km around Bolton.
  • Bull Ring
    An unofficial walk of almost 200km around Birmingham and the Black Country.
  • Burnley Way
    A 65km circuit from Burnley.
  • Cambridge Ring
    A walk of 30km which encircles Cambridge.
  • Coventry Way
    A 67km circuit of Coventry.
  • Greater Manchester Boundary Walk
    Greater Manchester Boundary Walk A walk of 222km encircling Greater Manchester.
  • Hertfordshire Way
    A 264km circuit round the county, taking in Royston, St Albans, Tring station, Chipperfield Common, Aldenham, Hertford, Perry Green and Bishop’s Stortford.
  • Isle of Wight Coast Path
    A 130km circumambulation of the island.
  • Kirklees Way
    A walk of 120km encircling the Borough of Kirklees.
  • Leeds Country Way
    A 99km circuit of the city.
  • Leicestershire Round
    A 167km circuit in Leicestershire taking in Burrough Hill, Frolesworth, Mountsorrel and Frisby-on-the-Wreake.
  • London — Coal Tax Circuit
    A 315km walk which links up the markers which delineate the 1860s boundary, within which imports of coal and wine were taxed by the City of London Corporation.
  • London Loop
    A 277km circuit of the capital which follows close to the outer boundaries of the London boroughs, sometimes extending into neighbouring areas.
  • Milton Keynes Boundary Walk
    A walk of 102km which encircles the Borough of Milton Keynes (not just the urban area).
  • Oxford Greenbelt Way
    A walk of 87km in the green belt around Oxford.
  • Poole Harbour Trail
    A walk of 63km which encircles Poole Harbour, with railway stations at Poole and Wareham on the route.
  • Rochdale Way
    A 72km walk round the borough of Rochdale.
  • Rotherham Roundwalk
    A circuit of 38km within the Borough of Rotherham.
  • Sheffield Country Walk
    A walk of 86km encircling Sheffield.
  • South Yorkshire Way
    A 279km walk encircling South Yorkshire. There is also a cross-sectional route of 155km.
  • Tandridge Border Path
    A walk of 88km perambulating (as it says on the tin) the boundary of Tandridge District, to the south of London.
  • Tyne and Wear Heritage Way
    A walk of 135km which encircles the Newcastle/Gateshead conurbation, passing many sites of heritage interest.
  • Ulster Way
    A 1024km walk around Northern Ireland.
  • Wakefield Way
    A walk of 115km encircling Wakefield.

Linear routes

  • Hadrian’s Wall Path
    A 146km walk between Bowness-on-Solway and Segedunum (Wallsend).
  • Llwybr Clawdd Offa / Offa’s Dyke Path
    A walk of 286km between Chepstow and Prestatyn.
  • Sussex Border Path
    A 224km route between Thorney Island and Rye, following the inland boundary of West Sussex and East Sussex with their respective authorities to the north. By following the coast path between Rye and Thorney Island, the circuit may be sealed.
