Towpath walks

Paths along towpaths are generally flat, making them attractive for walkers with constraints on steep ascents, but it must be noted that they are not necessarily without steps and/or stiles. There will also be some variation to cope with canal tunnels with no towpath. This may mean that those walkers with the above-mentioned constraints will resort to a bus to cover the problematic bits.

• Cheshire Ring Canal Walk
  A 157km circuit of canal towpaths in and to the south of Manchester.
• Coventry Canal Path
  A 61km walk between the centre of Coventry and Fradley Junction.
• Forth and Clyde / Union Canal Walk
  A walk of 102km between Bowling and Edinburgh.
• Grand Union Canal Walk
  A 227km walk along the towpath of the canal between the River Thames at Brentford and Birmingham’s famous Gas Street Basin.
• Kennet and Avon Canal Path
  A walk of 157km along the towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal between Reading and Bath.
• Oxford Canal Path
  A walk of 129km between Oxford and Hawkesbury Junction, on the north-eastern tip of Coventry.
• Regent’s Canal Walk
  A 14km walk along the towpath (with necessary diversions via streets to negotiate tunnels) between Little Venice and Limehouse.
• Royal Military Canal Path
  A 45km walk alongside the Royal Military Canal between Hythe and Rye.
