Bolton Rotary Way

Bolton Rotary Way

A walk of 82km around Bolton.

There are public transport connections available throughout. Bolton is the key base station, but the walk is accessible from anywhere in Greater Manchester, and from towns across the border in Lancashire to the north.

Walkers should note that the GPX files linked from the page to which we link are not in the least accurate: the route is a full 20% longer than the GPX-merchants would have you believe, and their point-to-point routing crosses reservoirs, rivers, motorways and housing estates without any command of geography. For this reason, amended maps (which negate the need to walk on water, etc.) are provided as below. These maps assume the nominal start-point of Bromley Cross station, which is more amenable than Affetside.

Note also that the section between Horwich and Bromley Cross involves much rougher country than the rest of the route, with no convenient intermediate points of support.
