Dales Way

Dales Way

A route of 127km between Ilkley and Bowness-on-Windermere.

There are public transport connections (25 locations) at key staging points. The geography of the route means that possibilities for base stations are rather limited, though Ilkley would make sense to soak up the three link routes (as below).

Bradford link

A 20km walk linking the centre of Bradford with the Dales Way at Ilkley.

There are rail connections available at Frizinghall, Shipley and Menston.

Harrogate link

A 27km walk linking the centre of Harrogate with the Dales Way at Ilkley.

There are public transport links at key staging posts along the route.

Leeds link

A 35km walk linking the centre of Leeds with the Dales Way at Ilkley.

There are public transport links at key staging posts along the route.

Observations

Though the route is longer than our standard one-day walks (it takes about 8.5 hours according to Naismith’s Rule at 5km/h), it may be shortened by taking a bus to the official start at Woodhouse Moor, or farther into the suburbs.
