Greater Ridgeway

The Greater Ridgeway route is made up of the four routes listed below. Together, they follow the line of an ancient route linking the English Channel with the North Sea. This ancient route, used for trading and other reasons (including military) keeps to the natural ridges (which would be less taxing than the mud and woodland of the valleys).

The total distance is 625km.

  • Wessex Ridgeway
A 220km walk between Lyme Regis and Marlborough.
  • The Ridgeway
A walk of 136km between Overton Hill and Ivinghoe Beacon.
  • Icknield Way Trail
A walk of 193km between Ivinghoe Beacon and Knettishall Heath.
  • Peddars Way
A walk of 76km between Knettishall Heath and Holme next the Sea.
