Hubs
Some places lend themselves to being hubs, where you may pitch up for a few days’ car-free walking, fanning out on a different route (or part of a route) each day. The hub becomes a walking-place for recreation at walking pace. Hubs in this area include
- Birmingham
Birmingham is the pre-eminent hub for the entire region: its public transport links are excellent throughout the area and to the west. - Coventry
Coventry is the natural hub for the north-east of the area, with links into neighbouring parts of the East Midlands. The Coventry Way encircles the city, and the Coventry Canal Path begins in the city centre. - Evesham
Evesham fills in the south-west of the area, supplementing local links from Stratford on Avon and Worcester. - Kenilworth
Special mention must be made of Kenilworth, which is its own little hub. The local Footpath Preservation Group pioneered the publication of a book of local walks, which has been updated regularly over almost half a century. The group also maintains the routes in co-operation with the local authority. There is much more than the castle to see, and frequent bus links with Coventry and Leamington Spa make walks accessible in a wider area. - Leamington Spa
Leamington has excellent public transport connections across the centre of the area and to the south-east. - Stratford-on-Avon
Stratford is a key hub for the south of the area, with public transport links extending into the Cotswold area, as well as within the bounds of the West Midlands region.
