South Yorkshire Way

The South Yorkshire Way totals 436km in length, made up of a 278km boundary route and a 158km route which cuts through the centre of the council area. In each case, the conventional start is near Thorne North station.
Boundary route
A 279km walk encircling South Yorkshire.
There are public transport connections (65 locations) throughout. Sheffield and Doncaster are probably the best base stations, each covering a substantial quantity of the route, with overlaps between them.
Observations
Walkers should note that public transport is sketchy in the west, with only a limited Saturday-only service at Flouch: private arrangements may need to be made.
Central route
A walk of 158km between Thorne (near the North station) and the station at Dore and Totley. The route links places of interest and the main conurbations in South Yorkshire.
Public transport connections (66 locations) are available throughout. Doncaster, Barnsley and Sheffield make for good base stations.
