Transpennine Trail

A 346km walk between Southport and Hornsea.

The route runs through the metropolitan boroughs of North Merseyside and Greater Manchester via Warrington, then across the north of Derbyshire, through Yorkshire to Hull and on to the coast. Transport connections (for people, not horses) are good in many areas. Warrington, Manchester, Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Hull might serve as base stations.

Observations

Walkers should note that the route is accessible to horses and cyclists too, so should be ready to meet the depredations caused by hooves and (particularly) by tyres.
