Vale Way

A walk of 44km between Abingdon and Longcot.

The route passes through Abingdon, Wantage, Stanford in the Vale, and Faringdon, all of which have public transport connections. West of Faringdon, the bus service (to and from Swindon) runs to the north of the route.

Observations

Walkers should be aware that the routecards (linked as “detail” from the above link) are minimalist to an exceptional degree — a common failing amonst those who need no route directions because they are already familiar with the route. Such organiusations ought to ensure that there is at least one “devil’s advocate” from another area to counteract local smugness. A generous map corridor must be carried, and a compass will be of great help in determining the route and any escape to a main road or bus stop.
