By Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath, the route reaches Golders Green, then threads through the streets to find the Welsh Harp reservoir and Barn Hill. It drops to Northwick Park before going over Harrow Hill to Pinner. Onwards through Oxhey Woods to reach the Grand Union Canal at Croxley Common Moor, the route completes its journey on the canal towpath through Cassiobury Park, and past Kings Langley and Apsley. The route ends at Hemel Hempstead station, which is the conventional start (and finish) of the Hertfordshire Way.

The route distance totals a little over 50km, with over 600m ascent.
