Get out of London! North-east to Epping

Walked — July/September 2019

Ambresbury Banks, Epping Forest

After setting out via Smithfield, the Regent’s Canal is gained at City Road Basin, and is followed to the Olympic Park (with an alternative route through Victoria Park), the towpath route taking in the Hertford Union Canal and the Lee Navigation. Beyond the Olympic Park, streets link to Wanstead Flats. From this point, the route generally follows the Epping Forest Centenary Walk via Snaresbrook and Chingford all the way to Epping (unless there is a more interesting option), ending at the station.

At just over 36km, this is the shortest of the radial walks, with a little over 330m ascent.
