The Circumcardinal rises again
A day out, back on the big circular route, by fields and forests (and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award groups) across the wonderful Chiltern Hills from Hemel Hempstead to Chalfont St Giles, touching three valleys: Bulbourne, Chess and Misbourne.
A Smith for all Seasons
At the back end of 2021, a book called Walks for each Season (Julia Smith — 9781739986704) was published: I fell upon it in the spring. Twenty-six walks starting and finishing at a station easily accessible from London, matching the routes with seasonal interest.
Thus far, I declare the book to be a winner.
Across the top of London
From Enfield to Harrow Weald Common on the London Loop route in two consecutive mornings, about 40km when measured from and to home. Two warm mornings with some surprise changes from the last time I was through the area.
Epping Forest and the Lee Valley
The anticlockwise Loop crosses Epping Forest and descends to the Lee Valley through areas of deterrence and landscape disimprovement, and (better news!) passing through the area of Enfield Wash with the re-wiggled Turkey Brook.
